Review of Wicked 2

My Thoughts on Wicked 2 - the Movie

Many years ago, in 2004 in fact, I was on my way to Hawaii to enjoy our first trip without kiddos.

On the way to enjoy a week in paradise, in an airport bookstore, I saw the book, Wicked, by Gregory McGuire. I thought to myself that this will be fun! I will read the book before I get a chance to see the musical.

Let’s just say that I did not find “Wicked” a great beach read. It was dark and sad, not a great read for a week away without the kids.

Because of my first brush with the book, I did not rush to go see the musical.

Eventually, I did see the musical, and I enjoyed it a lot more than I enjoyed the book. The music was entertaining, the sets were imaginative and the costuming was great.

Fast forward to the first part of the movie being released in 2024. Let’s just say, I really liked it.

I saw it once in the movie theater. It was good, but some of the drama about the cast I found to take some of the joy away from the show.

So when my cousin invited me to go see Wicked 2 with her, I went.

I did not expect much from the show, but I was interested in watching the completion of my journey that started with the reading of the book.

All of that to say, I really, really liked Wicked 2. It is not often that I have read a book but didn’t enjoy the book, went to the musical on Broadway, liked the movie better but the most shocking part is that I liked the sequel most of all!

Yet. this is how I felt about this show.
